You’d think a legal topic would be pretty dry. Fortunately, the best part about this book is that it is extremely informative and also very easy to understand (and actually entertaining). The book is less than 300 hundred pages and leaves you with a national perspective (addressing all 50 states) on tenant rights. It even provides state-by-state references about bounced check fees, rental late fees and more.

I’m actually a landlord, but read this to make sure I had a clear understanding of tenant’s rights. Very satisfied with this series.

This book explains everything you need to know BEFORE you sign a lease so as to avoid problems. And then it also explains what your rights are if difficulties do arise.

Wondering about whether you can have a large fish tank? And what about your dog? A sample pet agreement will solve most problems beforehand.

Security deposits are a frequent source of trouble. The book covers such questions as: do you have a right to expect to get interest from your security deposit? What are the most common reasons for losing your security deposit? There are legal remedies as a last resort. Among other suggestions are: contact your local consumer protection agency or housing agency, the city or country rent control board, and your locl tenet and apartment association.

There are suggestions about how to break a lease, and the possible consequences, some legal, of breaking a lease. And even some suggestions about how best to stop renting, when you are ready, and buy a home.

This book also includes a CD-ROM with rental forms and the landlord-tenant laws for every state in the US.
